I wrote this track as sort of the "anti-commercial" song on the EP. I was inspired by watching that brillant Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scotts DVD. Jeff just has no rules to his music, I love that vibe. So, even though this doesn't really sound like Jeff Beck, it has that spirit of non-conformity to it.
The first section is in 7/4 and was written around the staccato bass part that I double on guitar. The next section has a strange 15/16 to 17/16 drum pattern and the music is based entirely around the whole-tone scale.
The breakdown section has the obvious Satriani influence. For the end solo, I tried coming up with something tasteful, but it really wasn't possible, so I went for my best attempt at shred! After recording that bit, I had to actually leave the studio and go outside. Theres only so much whole-tone scale a person can stand!
